Disability

One in five Australians (around four million) has a disability and there are around 2.5 million carers.

Under the National Disability Agreement, Australian Governments have committed to working together to meet the objective that people with disability and their carers have an enhanced quality of life and participate as valued members of the community.

The COAG Reform Council’s role is to report to COAG on the performance of Commonwealth, State and Territory governments against the National Disability Agreement’s objective. The three outcomes under the National Disability Agreement are:

  • People with disability achieve economic participation and social inclusion
  • People with disability enjoy choice, wellbeing and the opportunity to live as independently as possible
  • Families and carers are well supported.
